Fordite- beauty from waste.
These colourful specimens called fordite or Motor Agate, are the result of automotive enamel paint. Going back a good few years, before the days of electrostatic spray painting, cars were hand sprayed in big factories, with a lot of paint being wasted.
Over the course of time, the over-sprayed paint built up on the tracks on which the cars were painted and many colourful layers developed. These layers of paint were then repeatedly hardened in ovens when the cars were being cured.
Eventually, the paint build-up would become obstructing, or too thick and heavy, and had to be removed. As the story goes, some crafty workers with an eye for beauty realized that this unique by-product was worth salvaging. It was super-cured, patterned like psychedelic agate, and could be cut and polished with relative ease and people started making collectable pieces and jewelry.
Did you guys know “Fordite” is a thing? A Michigan thing apparently. Just heard of it today. I kinda want a small piece on a necklace. Google it to see the raw photos of it.
I just “fixed” my bike! Took me over 2 hours, due to a lot of human error, but I feel good about it. Luckily, nothing was broken. Thought the back inner tube was leaking, but it turns out my dad was wrong and couldn’t inflate the tire properly. Needless to say, it was an experience. The only con is that our bike pump broke (ended up borrowing my aunt’s pump) and I hope my dad doesn’t chew me out because it belonged to his mom, I think.
Hey Korra Nation! Phew. Some of you may have heard versions of this news elsewhere, but here’s the official word. After this Friday’s on-air premiere of Episode 8 “The Terror Within” at 8/7c, all remaining Book 3 episodes will move to a digital rollout. That means two things: 1) Korra is NOT…
I wasn’t overly interested in this when I first heard about it, because all i cared about was that i could still watch Korra.
But the [tv] animator in me has gotten very curious and concerned. I love how “Nickelodeon” basically told Bryke that their reruns get more, or about the same views as new episodes of Korra. Why not air on both? What was stopping “Nickledeon” from airing on both platforms (especially from the beginning)? Probably an answer that involves a lot of politics and private information. Sigh. Like i09’s article says, Korra is apparently that awkward of a show to market (nah, we all know “Nickelodeon” is too lazy to care). It feels like it wants to be a Lifetime drama, but is stuck as a Nicktoon (note how I said Nicktoon, and not “kids show”). Those leaks didn’t help either.
Creator-driven, tv cartoons are dead. But not necessarily in a bad way (it’s bad for cable companies because no one in 3 years is going to pay $80+ a month for shit networks with shit show they don’t watch).
Even if money/travel/experience/ect. wasn’t an obstacle, I still wouldn’t know what to do with my life.
Ya know? I wish I had goals.
